Holiday Group

Christmas 2017 at Courthouse.jpgWe had a lot of fun this year performing holiday music around the community. At the lighting of the Blanco Courthouse we performed upstairs with Santa Clause! It was so much fun playing Christmas music and watching the kids sit on Santa’s lap. We also enjoyed playing at the Christmas Market days on the square, the Henry House, and at the Red Bud Cafe. Great job to all the students and special thanks to our voice instructor Julie Prejean. We Welcome Voice Instructor Julie Prejean to the Sound Situation

After graduating from Houston’s High School for Performing and Visual Arts, getting married and starting her family, Julie moved to Southern California in 1989 and immediately fell in love with her beautiful new hometown…Los Angeles. She traded her hurricane lamps for earthquake preparedness kits and began raising her newborn daughter.

Once her daughter became a little older, Julie began singing professionally in many different capacities. In stage productions (“Sondheim, Weill, Gershwin – A Musical Revue” “No Rhyme or Reason” “Our Fathers” “Space Girl: A Rock Fantasy”) film scores, (“Teenage Bonnie & Klepto Clyde” “Death Wish V: Face of Death” “Dangerous Touch”) rock bands (“Daughter Judy” “Gervasi” “Sparks Off The Wheel”) backing vocals (Lisa Turner, Sara Hickman, Victoria Williams, Katee Gadette) and music ministries (“The Third Day” “Emmanuel”). She then took on a wide variety of students as a Vocal Coach.

She also began volunteering with several community organizations, and soon realized she had a knack for leading groups of people. This led to her career of over 20 years in the field of volunteer and community led project management.
Julie Prejean

To date, she has trained and mobilized thousands of volunteers of all ages in hundreds of community led projects on school campuses, streets and parks throughout Los Angeles County.

In the late 1990’s, she co-developed a volunteer leadership training which is still being used by a Hands On Network affiliate, L.A. Works.

In 2008, Julie joined the staff of the environmental non-profit Tree People to manage the work of the Forestry Department, a vibrant group of dedicated tree planting and restoration professionals.

While at TreePeople, Julie became a trained Council carrier and facilitator at the Ojai Foundation, whose mission is to foster practices that awaken connection with self, others, and the natural world. Council is a practice of speaking and listening from the heart. Through compassionate, heartfelt expression and empathic listening, Council inspires a non-hierarchical form of deep communication that reveals a group’s vision and purpose.

Her favorite musical gig in LA was her monthly hour long set entertaining guests at Tree People’s Moonlight Hike! Julie and her husband, illustrator and bass player Chad Glass, recently relocated Canyon Lake, TX where they are happily living and creating art and music. Nowadays, Julie sings with the Austin improv band Gretchen’s Disco Plague (It’s Infectious) and is enjoying the heck out of it!
